讲座摘要

(coauthored with Khonika Gope)

Though prior research shows that some accelerators substantially boost venture performance across several dimensions, such as funding, web traffic, and employee growth, we do not know their impact on the career outcomes of individual entrepreneurs. Given that the majority of the ventures fail, and founders eventually enter wage employment, we ask the question: How do accelerators impact a founder’s career? I use a novel regression discontinuity design on accepted and almost accepted participants of a prominent business accelerator, Startup Chile. I find that accelerators do impact a participating founder’s later career across various dimensions – earnings, leadership, career progression. However, the impact is not uniform across these dimensions.
